Atlas Copco leads innovation with energy-cutting compressor

May 21, 2013

Stockholm, Sweden, May 21, 2013: Atlas Copco has introduced a groundbreaking compressor that sets a new industry standard in energy efficiency. The new compressor can cut energy consumption roughly by half compared to traditional fixed-speed compressors.
The new compressor gained immediate acceptance by the market, selling more than 500 units in the two weeks following the launch last month. It is the result of several years of research and development. The greatest innovation is the integration of the interior permanent magnet motor with the compressor element, creating a lighter, quieter and more efficient machine.

“Our new compressor sets a whole new standard by cutting energy consumption up to 50%,” said Stephan Kuhn, President of the Compressor Technique Business Area. “It will benefit both our customers and the environment. It’s a great example of how our investment in R&D is paying off.”

Atlas Copco’s compressors are used virtually everywhere in today’s global economy: on construction sites, oil platforms, in hospitals, in the manufacturing and process industries, to name a few places. The new compressor requires only half the space than its predecessors. It’s also quieter, with a noise level comparable to a normal conversation. Atlas Copco last year invested 24% more on research and development, continuing its commitment to make the most innovative products.
