Join Atlas Copco Industrial Tools & Assembly Solutions as a Calibration Laboratory Engineer and be part of a team that is dedicated to maximising customer satisfaction with our service and product quality by providing professional calibration, repair, and field services. You will be responsible for performing inspections, maintenance, calibrations, and administrative tasks to ensure the accuracy and functionality of instruments and tools within the framework of the company procedures as well as ISO17025. You will report to the Calibration Lab Manager. 

This role is designed to prepare you for a future transition to a senior-level position, such as Senior Metrologist, Deputy, or Laboratory Manager, focusing on developing leadership skills, enhancing operational efficiency, and fostering long-term customer relationships.

Your role: 

  • Conduct equipment inspections, analysis, fault finding, repairs, and calibrations to support quotes and reports. 
  • Service and repair customer equipment prior to calibration, when required.
  • Accurately calibrate and test instruments according to relevant standards.
  • Report, document, and generate calibration/test certificates and labels according to customer expectations. 
  • Document all relevant information within the laboratory LIMS and Job card system.
  • Authorize certificates and reports as per the laboratory’s policies and procedures. 
  • Travel nationally and internationally for services, maintenance, and calibration of customers' equipment on-site as well as support customers with training and receive product and service training.
  • Calculate calibration measurement uncertainty budgets.
  • Support internal and external assessments and regulatory audits.
  • Ensure safe and suitable GLP according to the company’s QSHE standards, aiming for zero accidents. 
  • Follow the QMS to ensure high-quality results and zero customer complaints and deviations. 
  • Maintain all laboratory resources, ensuring traceability.
  • Assist with the implementation of systems to ensure compliance with data integrity.
  • Support the achievement of the laboratory’s KPIs in line with the company’s overall KPIs.
  • Provide relevant product, service, and calibration training to internal staff (onboarding process to new engineers)

To succeed, you will need: 

  • A degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within the calibration or instrumentation industry. 
  • Strong mathematical skills to calculate uncertainty budgets.
  • High knowledge of calibrations and/or metrology, preferred Force and Torque.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint O365 and a JobCard (IndySoft) system.
  • Proficiency in using various calibration software and tools.
  • Knowledge and understanding of various calibration standards and methods (ISO17025, ISO6789, BS7882, DIN51039, VDI/VDE2648, etc). 
  • You have a clean driver's licence and live within the geographical area of Wolverhampton.
  • This role is based in the UK but also includes an element of travel for field service support tasks. Main tasks are carried out in the Wolverhampton calibration lab and workshop. Must be prepared to travel overseas for product training. Must be prepared to regularly visit UK tooling management centres and customer sites.
